Balche Bark

Strips peeled from the balche tree, the slim lilac-flowered hardwood that grows only under the dead sun. Bitter, faintly sweet, and no use as timber. Soaked with wild honey in the fermentation vessel it makes Balche, the mead the lowland kings poured out for the gods before anyone drank it.
